Funeral table
Estonians have an ancient custom of organizing memorial services for the deceased after the funeral service. These should take place immediately after the funeral service at the cemetery. We offer delicious food and discreet service for the memorial service.
We can accommodate up to 25 people. We have a cozy, private and peaceful atmosphere.
Some recommendations from the book: "The Great Housewife's Handbook" 2007
Only those invited will participate in the memorial lunch. Colleagues of the deceased may organize the memorial lunch themselves. Not all people who came to see the deceased off need to be invited to the funeral.
Speech
The deceased is remembered in speeches either before the meal or during dessert.
At the end of the funeral, one of the relatives thanks everyone who honored the memory of the deceased and supported the mourners with their presence.
It is wrong to think that mourners do not want to talk about the deceased. Quite often, talking about the deceased is actually necessary, because it helps restore spiritual balance. In addition to words of comfort, a quiet handshake and a warm look are also eloquent.
Catering for funeral
The dinner table is laid solemnly and strictly.
A traditional white tablecloth is used.
The place of honor is left empty, a knife and fork are placed diagonally on the plate. A burning candle in front of the plate represents the deceased.
A lunch consisting of broth and pies, roast, and a modest dessert is usually chosen.
Lunch is followed by tea or coffee, accompanied by cookies or cakes.
It is not good to overdo it with alcoholic beverages.
Mourners can take any food left over from a restaurant or cafeteria with them.
After the funeral, the relatives thank everyone who attended the funeral, for example in the corresponding section of the local newspaper.
